The reason for the inflated price is TAX, I ordered for a $500 unit at Play Asia and upon waiting UPS called me up and said that I have to pay for \"taxes and duties\" which amounts to 5k - around $100.
If my hunches are right, DataBlitz is actually selling the Wii at retail price tax. $250 is around 12 to 13k add the 5k tax and you get the 18k price tag.
So where would be the cheapest place to buy the Wii? At Duty Free, IF they have stocks.

[…] Lose Pounds on Wii Sports! If only this setup was possible on older consoles, say, a PSOne, I’d go for it; but I won’t be spending this much on a game console, no sireeee. […]
They have some in stock at Toy Kingdom last time i checked i want one so bad but i donno if i should wait 6 months for it to b availible in USA for $250 or buy one at toy kingdom for $600
I\'ve did my own digging on prices and this is what I\'ve come up so far,
Toykingdom = 30k (Standard US Retail package)
Celtex / Virtual Station = 29k (comes with 2 free games with the selection of the Spongebob game, Super Monkey Ball, Red Steel and Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Standard US retail package)
Datablitz = Previously it was 18k but not they jumped it to 24.5k (standard US retail package)
Ambassador Appliances = 35k Don\'t believe them when they say you get 5 games free, they were referring to the 5 games in Wii sports, either than that it only includes standard US retail package

you can\'t blame them for pricing it that high. i live in the US and i am still having trouble finding it. theres a shop that has them in stock but you have to shell out 450 dollars. and its just the basic wii package. they say it\'ll probably be a couple of more months before we see a more steady ample supply. that should lower prices

I saw a shop in Megamall that modifies Wii units. I\'m not sure if they sell them. Cost of modification is P4k. The shop\'s name is TV Games, beside Comic Alley, Bldg. A.
For those who are interested, Datablitz sells the Wii console, accessories, and games much lower than Toy Kingdom. Toy Kingdom has also started selling the console (without the Wii Sports game) for P18k…
Has anybody here tried ordering the games/accessories online - from PlayAsia? Prices are lower there, but I wonder if they really don\'t have delivery charges - and how long it takes them to deliver.

I really like the Wii but it\'s overprice. Buti pa yung Xbox 360 20k plus. Just the right price here in the Philippines compare to its original price. Wii is good but I think it\'s not yet worth the price here. Better wait a little longer for the price to normalize.

I just got back from the US and bought a Wii. I had to line-up early morning on a Sunday at a Target store to get the darn thing! But I tell you its worth it. The Wii brought back the gamer in me after being dormant for several years.
By the way I saw units at Robinsons. The Jap version sells for Php19k and the US version sells for Php26k (with Wii Sports bundled in.) In the US it cost $249.99 plus tax.

Hedz, You can get the Wii on installment in most stores that take credit cards: Toy Kingdom for sure (I bought mine on installment there)..also the other SM outlets - SM Toyworld (inside the Dept Store), etc. You can try checking Datablitz if they will sell it on installment…they have a website…just do a search. (Hey, I\'m not a stockholder there — but their prices are really cheaper). You might also want to time buying when the store are on Sale. Might save you a few more… ; )

Hi mkepweng2002 ! Like I posted earlier, I was able to get 4 Wii\'s when I was in the US 2 weeks ago. Problem is I can\'t connect to the Wii channels and the Wiiconnect24 because I can\'t find the text on the User\'s Agreement but I was able to update the software using my wireless connection here at home. I checked with the people who bought the other 3 units from me and they dont seem to have my problem. How\'s your Wii doing? Everything ok?

hi guys.. i\'m planning on selling wii\'s.. but i don\'t know what\'s the current market price of the modified wii\'s.. can anyone give me some idea..?
As I mentioned in an earlier entry, a shop in Megamall modifies Wii units. Cost of modification is P4k. The shop’s name is TV Games, at the basement, beside Comic Alley, Bldg. A.
I\'m thinking of having my Will modified but before I do, I\'m going to try buying the pirated software and try it on my unmodified unit first…I saw a dept store (Anson\'s in Ortigas) using an unmodified unit as a demo but using pirated software! Baka naman pwede… sayang din if I have my unit tampered with agad. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

sa v-mall gh, 19k @ virtual station, us wii plus 5 p*r*ted games. 1 set lang ng controllers and nun chuks wii sports 1 original game. Sa Cardinal AV 19,300 10 games. Pero id rather get from virtual station kasi they\'re more credible. A set of wii mote nun chuks costs aroung 2500.
@ M…the problem kasi with the one you think of buying is that it is Pal and yet unmodified. Bihira to none ang PAL games dito so pag NTSC ang country mo.. NTSC din dapat bilin mo. Hindi mo dapat maging option ang PAL. Dito ka nalang pabili.

I\'m planning on visiting my 8 year old daugther and wanted to get her a 2 player bundled Wii. Do I buy it here in the U.S. or in the Philippines? If I buy it in the U.S., how do I get it converted (I have read the above options) to work in the Philippines and at what cost? I\'ll be traveling in the Makati area. TIA

Hi all, I want to buy a wii here in Canada ($279.00) and send it to some family in Manila. I have a couple of questions though. What is the difference between the Japanses and North American version of the hardware? Also, are the 220v power supplies readily available for purchase in Manila? Should I just send money and have them purchase a unit there? If so, which one, the jap or American version? Any and all help is greatly apreciated.

I got back from the Phils last week. I purchased a Wii for my daughter here in the U.S. for about the same price you paid. They are about 60% - 70% more expensive in the Philippines (same with the games).
My U.S. version worked fine in the Phils with the proper voltage (plug). This is the only thing you need to be worried about.
Instead of paying $84 U.S. dollars for games at Toy Kingdom (I think that was the name of the place) I had her Wii convered ($30) and bought the $4 games, both transactions at Greenhills. 9 of the 12 games I bought worked perfectly. The three that didn\'t were for Gamecube. Was worth it and I could have returned the 3 that didn\'t work, but ran out of time.
Don\'t send them money to buy there. Just send them money to pay for the right plug if you send the American unit (which I assume is all they have in Canada).

The Wii I purchased in the states was modified at Greenhills and that is where I bought the games. I had heard about the need for a \"fan\" but didn\'t get one as I wasn\'t too familir with the necessity. It turns out the Wii doesn\'t work now because it overheated.
Anyone know how to fix it? If I send it back to manufacturer to get it fixed, won\'t they say something about the fact that it has been modified and not fix it? I\'m sure it won\'t be covered under warranty either. Any thoughts on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

Erica, You have different options. Some retailers sell the Wii with just the basic unit, others bundle the games: >
1. Wii unit only - includes the console, 1 Wiimote (the remote), 1 nunchuk (attached to the Wiimote), the sensor bar, power cord, etc. — I\'ve seen basic sets offered at around P18,500. Check out the price at Datablitz (SM/TK has a higher price).
2. Wii Sports - that\'s what they call it. This has one free game — which is the standard: Wii Sports — some say there are 4 games included but it may just be the same Wii Sports disc (1 disc), which has 4 games: bowling, golf, tennis and boxing. Be careful and ask to see the contents before you buy it… — Price for this at TK is around P22-24 K/thousand
3. Other retailers/resellers in the Philippines package more games, but the prices also vary.
What do you really need? To enjoy the game, you\'ll need at least the ff: 1. 2 Wiimotes (you have to buy an extra one) 2. 2 nunchuks
This will allow you to play with a friend, which should be lots of fun!
Other optional accessories in the market: 1. silicon protector for Wiimote and nunchuks - it\'s a protector. I have one for my Wiimotes — keeps the Wiimote clean, and your hands from slipping due to sweat.
3. rechargeable batteries - I bought rechargeable batteries for mine (Energizer) which saves me from buying batteries for the Wiimotes (the nunchuks get power from the Wiimote).
4. charging station - nice to have. This will allow you to place 2 Wiimotes on a stand and charge it at the same time.
5. fan — if your room is hot and you plan to play for hours, you can consider buying a fan. The console doesn\'t really become that hot, but it might help make your unit last longer.
Where to buy? The safest thing is to buy it from a reputable retailer. Check out the posts here — SM or Toy Kingdom is where I bought mine because they were the only store offering it at the time (or so I thought)… and also, because I wanted to buy mine using my card, on installment.
Sorry for the long post, everyone. Let us know if you have more questions. I hope this helps.

I tried a pirated game on my unmodified Wii and unfortunately, it didn\'t work!
Also, I\'ve been checking out the game and console prices at Playasia.com — and they\'re so much cheaper. They even have discounts for some games. A Red Steel game on discount is only P600 . You can also pre-order games… they claim that delivery in the Philippines is free. My husband\'s friend has been buying games from this site. I want to try it myself. Has anybody here tried buying from them?

Wow… Gumagana ang Wii pirated DVDs jan sa pinas? COOL!!! I got mine from Best Buy for $250 tax. It\'s selling like hotcakes here in the US, and I had to literally stalk the Best Buy delivery service to get a unit! Hahaha. (JK) Glad to know na meron na rin palang Wii jan. Maybe I could have mine modified. Do you know how much magpa-modify sa greenhills?

Bought a modified US version Wii @ SM-Sta Mesa for 20,999. Has 7 days replacement warranty and 1 year service warranty. If you use a VISA card, you get 5% rebate (for straight payment only).
Question: will updates \"brick\" a modified wii? I bought a p*r*t*d CD and on bootup is saying that it\'ll have to update.

Question: will updates “brick” a modified wii? I bought a p*r*t*d CD and on bootup is saying that it’ll have to update.
Alejandro: In a nutshell to save you viewing all the sites and the forums. In a nutshell what bricks a wii is when you have a game which has a different region to your firmware and you update it (if the games has an update).
Naturally unmodified wii\'s cannot get bricked because if you put a different region to your wii it won\'t play. Due to modified chips this allows your wii to play even different region games. Meaning your US NTSC wii can play NTSC JAP and PAL EUR games.
These are the combinations to look out for if you have a USA NTSC wii: the game is PAL with a lower firmware update than your wii - SAFE the game is NTSC USA with a firmware update higher than your wii - SAFE the game is NTSC USA with a firmware update lower than your wii - SAFE the game is PAL EUR with a higher firmware update than your wii - BRICK
The levels of BRICK depend on the kind of update you accidentally install to your wii. The reason why there are 2 kinds of brick - semi brick and total brick - is due to the fact that one update only did changes to the wii channel therefore messing up the settings of your wii. The total brick is due to the fact that the update did changes to the driver of the optical drive of the wii.
Games to watch out for are Nintendo Veteran games such as Mario Strikers Charged. This game is notorious for BRICKING USANTSC wii\'s a few months ago. But now that a lot of people update their firmware via WIFI it\'s not a problem now.
Another game that semi-bricked a lot of people in EUROPE was a SUPER PAPER MARIO NTSC game. People who owned PAL WII\'s in europe plugged in the dvd updated and KABLOOEY. Semi-Brick.
The best defense in protecting your modified wii are the following steps: 1. identify your mod chip - if it\'s here in manila chances are it\'s wii-key 2. Disable your automatic firmware updates - Only download a firmware update if your mod chip maker says it\'s alright. (wii key always releases a press release if the update it compatible with your chip) 3. Watch out for new games that come out. It is much safer to download your games via torrent than buying it from metrowalk or wherever because at least you know if it\'s PAL or NTSC. AND you can put brickblocker when you burn your WII dvd\'s. (brickblocker disables the updates that come with a dvd if there are any)
I hope I answered your question and imparted some useful knowledge!

I bought a wii in the US 3 mos ago, and had it modified at greenhills. And I recently bought a SUPER MARIO GALAXY last week. Thing is, when I inserted the game disc to the wii, it automatically made a SOFTWARE UPDATE! after waiting for like 15-20mins, the update was done and there were slight changes with the icons on the main screen (looks cool by the way). Now when I run the game, it says \"ERROR DETECTED\"! I actually dont know what happened there. But fortunately other games are working perfect as before, except for SUPER MARIO GALAXY. Can anyone please tell me how I can play it? I\'ve been itching to play it since I got hold of the game. PLEASE HELP! :\'-(
DonCarl: It depends on your mod chip. If your modchip is wii-key you need to update your modified chip software. As of this moment wii-key has a beta release which allows you to play super mario galaxy.
If your modchip is cyclowiz then there shouldn\'t be a problem. I myself have yet to buy Mario Galaxy because I know that wii-key\'s developers are still busy trying to come out with an official mod chip firmware update (not beta) to counter nintendo\'s new antipiracy countermeasures.
If you\'re really itching though, you can always go back to the people who placed the mod chip in your wii and inform them to update your wii with the beta update so that you can play mario galaxy.
Thanks for the wonderful tip man! I called them up and they said that the mod chip needs to be updated for playing Super Mario (meaning I have a wii-key). But what really struck me though is that the vendor of the Super Mario Galaxy told me that since the game is the \"1st batch\" , chances are you will get this kind of problem. However on the \"2nd or 3rd batch\" for this game, it will run smoothly on the wii without the need of updating your wii or mod-chip. Do you think there is truthfulness in this claim? I can\'t really say for sure because the people that modified my wii never said such thing (probably because they don\'t really care or they just want to earn). Anyways, I don\'t have any problem with that, but I do hope that the 2nd or 3rd batch will fix the problem thus saving me a grand at least.
Now when I run the game, it says “ERROR DETECTED”! I actually dont know what happened there. But fortunately other games are working perfect as before, except for SUPER MARIO GALAXY. Can anyone please tell me how I can play it? I’ve been itching to play it since I got hold of the game. PLEASE HELP! :’-(
Don Carl: No Problem. With regards to what the vendor said about 2nd batch and 3rd batch. I cannot guarantee what they say because from what I gather from the forums it\'s really nintendo\'s anti-mod doing.
I also suggest you don\'t update your wii-key yet if it costs 1 grand at the shop because the only update there is, is in \"beta form.\" It will be costly if another nintendo native game example \"smash brothers brawl\" which will be released feb-march next year will have yet another nintendo firmware anti piracy update.
Alejandro: No problem as well. Be sure though that you only download a firmware update via WIFI if and only IF your mod chip makers approve the update. I know that we\'re not experiencing any problems as of the moment but we cannot rule out the possibility that nintendo might come out with a wii firmware update that will recognize an alien object in the hardware (your modified chip.)

I have a Wii NTSC/US from Toy Kingdom. 2 days ago I played Super Mario Galaxy, all went fine without problems IN-GAME. I can switch to any game without problem but my settings are gone (semi-bricked). Anyone here who already know the solution to this? I\'m guessing I have a PAL SMG with higher firmware. If so, is there a game already higher than this? Thanks in advance.

Pros: A lot cheaper with regards to all the games. Cons: You are still unsure with forward compatability with future games with all these firmware updates by Nintendo.

People with wii-key don\'t try the 1.9g update in order to play Super Mario Galaxy yet. There seems to be a lot of fishy coincidences at the moment of modchips and their wii\'s ceasing to play pirated copies . I really would advise that you wait for an official wii-key update and not a beta.
Check the link below for reference “>http://wiikey19g.wordpress.com/2007/12/01/“... I don\'t really care about super mario galaxy but … if the modders are having a hard time with making SMG run smoothly with these beta releases for wiikey firmware what more when \"Super Smash Brothers Brawl\" comes out? =(

I am really interested in buying a wii. So basically, how much should be my budget if I am to purchase a modified wii with some of its accessories? ( 2 wii motes, 2 nunchucks, wii sports)
I have a Wii US Version, Bought it 3 months ago and not used much. I also have Wii SPORTS Game, Wii Play (with additional Remote), ZELDA and Wii Dancing Pad(with DVD) . And also had 220 Volts Wii Power Card. If someone wants to buy all these together make me a better offer. I am sure you guys know how much all these costs. Make me an offer on 09054242250.

Hi everyone! Question lang please, i have a japanese version of wii, and it seems to be having some problems playing wii sports. there\'s this error message (the only word i can understand from it is \"OFF\") that is displayed after ma-select yung mii player. As far as i know, modified na yung unit. But how can i be so sure? And what seems to be the prob regarding the playback? Is it with the cd itself? (pirated kasi, so that can be a concern, too)
hi advocatequeen, as far as i know, if you have a japanese wii, you should only buy/use games compatible with your system (mostly japanese games).. If you used an american game on your japanese wii, chances are the american game updated your system, which would eventually kill your wii for receiving the wrong system update. That\'s one drawback for buying modified wiis, because the console won\'t filter the CDs/DVDs that you would insert. If you have an unmodifed wii, it will tell you that the game you are inserting is incompatible with the wii, making it safe from unwanted wrong updates. there may be other reasons, my hunch might be wrong though… could you also post a shot of your TV screen with the error?

hi jepoy! thank you so much for the quick reply. honestly, i\'m not sure if my wii\'s actually modified, but the saleslady who tested the unit for me told me that it already was. the cd i\'ve been trying was wii sports, and there were some inconsistencies while playing it. basically, the farthest part i\'ve been to was till the \"training mode\" for tennis and golf; for the other parts, there\'s always this error message that pops up. i also tried the game \"katana\" and the error message, this time, is in english, which reads something like, \"disc could not be read. please refer to operations manual.\"
I\'m not much of a techie buff, but I love playing video games, so I honestly have no idea how to post a shot of my tv screen with the error. i can only think of one way, and i think it\'s highly \"primitive\" and unreliable — that is, to take a picture of the tv screen while the message is displayed. haha.
anyways, if you have more reasonable hunches, please do let me know. i really appreciate the time.

yup, taking a picture of your TV screen was what i was referring to. hehe. then just upload it later to flicker or other similar websites.
i scrolled through google for a bit about your problem, and the only feasible answer i found was about the game discs not being burned properly, resulting in game crashes on certain parts… this means that if your game discs are pirated DVD’s, then there’s a large probability that it’s using cheap DVD’s. and cheaper stuff usually goes with less quality.
for now, i would suggest for you to try and buy/rent/borrow an original wii sports game and test it out if it would work. good luck
hi jepoy! sorry for the late reply. thank you so much for the assistance. i’d like to think that it’s all because of the pirated disc, so i’m gonna give renting original wiigames a try. do you have any suggestions for a good rental house for wiigames? if i’m not mistaken, an original wii dvd game costs around PHP 4,000, right? Anyways, i’ll try it out with renting first.
Many thanks! =)
PS.
I’d post a screenshot of the error message sometime soon.
hi! i have also encountered that error on my wii..
“disc could not be read… press the eject button and turn off the wii console…please refer to operations manual.” (something like this)
even if i insert an original wii game (wii sports for example), sometimes the error appears.
anyway, in my case, i noticed that this error happens when my wii is set up in a vertical position. is your wii set up vertically? try to change its position horizontally. i haven’t encountered the error ever since i changed the position of my wii. lol
I’ve actually experience that error one time with an original game disc (Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.) It only happened once because I left the disc inside. I think it was a fluke of an error related to irregular disc speed I guess?
@ Everyone,
There’s a new minor 3.2 patch for the wii. I’m a little worried with Super Smash Brothers Brawl coming out a week from now because it’s a dual layer DVD. Hopefully our modded wiis will still be able to weather it out. Nintendo’s updates are slowly outdating our modchips.
My wii has survived Super Mario Galaxy … hopefully Super smash bros brawl too because i bought my wii for that in the first place!
Just bought a pirated copy of super mario galaxy in Green Hills, but when I tried to play it, it’s asking for an update. Though the copy looks like it’s NTSC-US I’m still afraid of going through with the update coz it might brick my Wii. Has anyone played a pirated copy of super mario galaxy? Did your Wii survive? Help.
I have a little question do u know wat is the costs of the cd of this wii in the PH im tired of checking up in every store but they hav no CD for wii and second question if there possibilty the cd for ps2/ps3/xbox can work to the wii nid ur reply asap
hi to all wii enthusiast, wag na kasi kayo gumamit ng mga pirated games sa wii nyo eh, hindi kasi sya tulad ng PS1, PS2, XBOX, XBOX360 or any other game console na hindi complicated pag minodify, so magkakaron talaga kayo ng mga problems maglaro kung different region yung game nyo.
@ arbikish - kung naghahanap ka ng orig games for wii, try mo datablitz, that is kung meron dyan sa area nyo, so far kasi dun lang medyo pantay yung price nung game sa original price sa US.
i just want to ask a question. In what version does Mario Galaxy work? I really wanted the game badly, however, all the pirated games that I bought has a “cannot read game disc error”. I’m planning to buy the original game? My wii has been modified and its current version is 3.1U. Do you guys think the orig Maro Galaxy will run w/o updating my wii? I’m afraid it might brick my wii.
Please help me…
Is there any other way I can get Mario Galaxy? Perhaps torent? Please teach me how.
well…pede namn pong mapalitan yung japanese ver nang english version…like mine…na pa modify po ako , i bought mine here in japan, nun nag vacation ako last year ,bitbit kopa for modify purpose nga ,it cost 3,500pesos.so far ok naman na po,and na eenjoy ko na sya kc kami na rin d2 ng hubby ko ang gumagawa ng mga games…bad yun!pero for personal purpose lang nman!!!
i got mine just yesterday. My tita shipped it for me from California. Big problem though coz it wont turn on! It says it needs 120V and 53W so i bought this transformer just for that. But nothing’s happening. Any idea what went wrong? Know any place where I can have my wii sport console checked out?
hey guys! im just new here so watsup? i was just wondering, matagal ko na napamodify yung wii ko and when im with my friends or by myself it worked just fine pero nung naglaro ako ng guitar hero 3 na pirated next thing happened was bigla lumabas yung “error” tapos black screen, tapos everytime na naglalagay ako ng cd kahit original ayun parin lumalabas. need help guys. ano ba nangyari sa wii ko why nagkakaganito? tnx. heres my email add. david_team_vans@hotmail.com..

Not cool… retail in US is $250 and selling it for $600 is down right gouging. How much is a PS3 then?

The reason for the inflated price is TAX, I ordered for a $500 unit at Play Asia and upon waiting UPS called me up and said that I have to pay for \"taxes and duties\" which amounts to 5k - around $100.
If my hunches are right, DataBlitz is actually selling the Wii at retail price tax. $250 is around 12 to 13k add the 5k tax and you get the 18k price tag.
So where would be the cheapest place to buy the Wii? At Duty Free, IF they have stocks.

P19k is an acceptable price. Profit margin of around 15-25% only.

Hedz,
You can get the Wii on installment in most stores that take credit cards: Toy Kingdom for sure (I bought mine on installment there)..also the other SM outlets - SM Toyworld (inside the Dept Store), etc.

Rio,
As I mentioned in an earlier entry, a shop in Megamall modifies Wii units.
Has anybody here tried this?

sa v-mall gh, 19k @ virtual station, us wii plus 5 p*r*ted games.

Hi all,
I want to buy a wii here in Canada ($279.00) and send it to some family in Manila. I have a couple of questions though. What is the difference between the Japanses and North American version of the hardware? Also, are the 220v power supplies readily available for purchase in Manila? Should I just send money and have them purchase a unit there? If so, which one, the jap or American version? Any and all help is greatly apreciated.
Peace!

Alex,
I got back from the Phils last week.
Hope this helps…

The Wii I purchased in the states was modified at Greenhills and that is where I bought the games. I had heard about the need for a \"fan\" but didn\'t get one as I wasn\'t too familir with the necessity. It turns out the Wii doesn\'t work now because it overheated.
Anyone know how to fix it? If I send it back to manufacturer to get it fixed, won\'t they say something about the fact that it has been modified and not fix it? I\'m sure it won\'t be covered under warranty either. Any thoughts on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.

GABbabe14:
Erica,
You have different options.
To enjoy the game, you\'ll need at least the ff:
1. 2 Wiimotes (you have to buy an extra one)
2. 2 nunchuks
This will allow you to play with a friend, which should be lots of fun!
Other optional accessories in the market:
1. silicon protector for Wiimote and nunchuks - it\'s a protector.

Obsidian:
Alejandro: In a nutshell to save you viewing all the sites and the forums. In a nutshell what bricks a wii is when you have a game which has a different region to your firmware and you update it (if the games has an update).
Naturally unmodified wii\'s cannot get bricked because if you put a different region to your wii it won\'t play. Due to modified chips this allows your wii to play even different region games. Meaning your US NTSC wii can play NTSC JAP and PAL EUR games.
These are the combinations to look out for if you have a USA NTSC wii:
the game is PAL with a lower firmware update than your wii - SAFE
the game is NTSC USA with a firmware update higher than your wii - SAFE
the game is NTSC USA with a firmware update lower than your wii - SAFE
the game is PAL EUR with a higher firmware update than your wii - BRICK
Semi-Brick.
The best defense in protecting your modified wii are the following steps:
1. identify your mod chip - if it\'s here in manila chances are it\'s wii-key
2. Disable your automatic firmware updates - Only download a firmware update if your mod chip maker says it\'s alright. (wii key always releases a press release if the update it compatible with your chip)

Obsidian:
Alejandro: In a nutshell to save you viewing all the sites and the forums. In a nutshell what bricks a wii is when you have a game which has a different region to your firmware and you update it (if the games has an update).
Naturally unmodified wii’s cannot get bricked because if you put a different region to your wii it won’t play.
The levels of BRICK depend on the kind of update you accidentally install to your wii. The reason why there are 2 kinds of brick - semi brick and total brick - is due to the fact that one update only did changes to the wii channel therefore messing up the settings of your wii. The total brick is due to the fact that the update did changes to the driver of the optical drive of the wii.
Games to watch out for are Nintendo Veteran games such as Mario Strikers Charged. This game is notorious for BRICKING USANTSC wii’s a few months ago. But now that a lot of people update their firmware via WIFI it’s not a problem now.
Another game that semi-bricked a lot of people in EUROPE was a SUPER PAPER MARIO NTSC game. People who owned PAL WII’s in europe plugged in the dvd updated and KABLOOEY. Semi-Brick.
The best defense in protecting your modified wii are the following steps:
1. identify your mod chip - if it’s here in manila chances are it’s wii-key
2. Disable your automatic firmware updates - Only download a firmware update if your mod chip maker says it’s alright. (wii key always releases a press release if the update it compatible with your chip)
3. Watch out for new games that come out. It is much safer to download your games via torrent than buying it from metrowalk or wherever because at least you know if it’s PAL or NTSC.

No Problem.
Alejandro:
No problem as well.

I\'m not much of a techie buff, but I love playing video games, so I honestly have no idea how to post a shot of my tv screen with the error. i can only think of one way, and i think it\'s highly \"primitive\" and unreliable — that is, to take a picture of the tv screen while the message is displayed. haha.
anyways, if you have more reasonable hunches, please do let me know. i really appreciate the time.

yup, taking a picture of your TV screen was what i was referring to. hehe. then just upload it later to flicker or other similar websites.
i scrolled through google for a bit about your problem, and the only feasible answer i found was about the game discs not being burned properly, resulting in game crashes on certain parts… this means that if your game discs are pirated DVD’s, then there’s a large probability that it’s using cheap DVD’s. and cheaper stuff usually goes with less quality.
good luck
for now, i would suggest for you to try and buy/rent/borrow an original wii sports game and test it out if it would work.

“disc could not be read… press the eject button and turn off the wii console…please refer to operations manual.” (something like this)
even if i insert an original wii game (wii sports for example), sometimes the error appears.
anyway, in my case, i noticed that this error happens when my wii is set up in a vertical position. is your wii set up vertically? try to change its position horizontally. i haven’t encountered the error ever since i changed the position of my wii. lol

@ Advocate Queen,
I’ve actually experience that error one time with an original game disc (Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.) It only happened once because I left the disc inside.
